Our Mission
OpenPolicy.Africa was established to solve a specific problem in Nigerian governance: institutional amnesia. Policies are announced with grand ceremonies, but tracking their actual implementation requires navigating a labyrinth of dead links, unpublished reports, and conflicting political statements.
We build structured, verifiable records of what was promised, who is responsible, when it is due, and what evidence exists to prove it happened.
Governance & Independence
OpenPolicy is strictly non-partisan and operates independently of any government institution, political party, or political candidate. Our funding sources and operational expenditures will be published annually in the spirit of the transparency we demand from others.
Right of Reply & Corrections
We recognize that implementing national policy is complex and subject to changing realities.
- For Government Agencies: If your institution’s progress is marked as “cannot determine” or “delayed”, you can submit official documentation through our portal. Verified submissions update the record.
- For Citizens: If you spot a factual error in our summaries or have local evidence that contradicts our current status, please use the Submit Evidence button on any policy page.
Technology
This platform is open-source. The underlying data model is designed to be interoperable with other civic tech initiatives across the continent.
